Carefully crafted conspiracy theories about aliens are nothing new, nor are conspiracy theories about other people and their way of life. It can be heartbreaking to see a parent, a loved one or a friend dive into the realm of things that may seem impossible to other, using these theories to justify certain aspects of their lives. When it seems to harm other and themselves, it becomes a serious cause for concern.
In the new sci-fi drama Acid Man, it is this reasoning that becomes the basis for a single father to lead a lonely life, and although it can be done intentionally, in the long run it does not help him, especially after his daughter, who lives apart, shows up at his door wanting to find her recluse. parent.
The Church Of Thomas Hayden Is Impressive
The Director Of “Eisenman” Is Alex Lehmann. Lehmann co-wrote the script with Chris Dowling, who had previously worked on azure Wonder and Priceless as a screenwriter, and also directed films such as WHERE the Hope grows. Thomas Hayden Church, who has already appeared in the films “Side”, “Spider-Man 3” and “Smart People”, star alongside Glee’s Diana Argon. Together, they form a father-daughter duo that has been separated for some time.
The film premiered in June 2022 at the Tribeca Film Festival. It was acquired by Brainstorm Media for distribution in 2023 and, almost a year after Tribeca, will be released on North American screens at the end of March. Acidman has 87 minutes, which makes it appropriate for timing and rhythm given its history, and he finds his redeeming moments precisely in the performances, especially in the performance of Church Lloyd.
Father, daughter and sons
In “The Acid Man”, Maggie (Argon) was looking for her father Lloyd. At the conception of the film, his efforts finally paid off when he found him and discovered that he was living isotardyd in the forest. Why exactly these two moved away from each other remains a puzzle, postponed to what will happen when she returns home.
It is at these moments that Maggie realizes that her father’s mental health is no longer what it used to be. However, even though she came to meet him to convey an important message, she turns out to be unable to speak to him properly. Perhaps her task would have been much easier if she were an alien, but in Acidman, the people around Lloyd, such as the closest neighbor and residents of neighboring towns, believe that she is an alien creature that roams the forests.
Turning pleasure into dysfunction
The conflict manifests itself through this; while there is an emotional conflict in the middle of Maggie and her father, a group of neighborhood children show up and ransack her house, adding fuel to the sniping so that the film goes beyond the father and daughter’s attempts to talk to each other. At primary, everything goes pretty well: the conversations are short, but they are ongoing. But as the film progresses, Lloyd finally comes face to face with his daughter and asks her the real reason why he came to visit her.
The depiction of dysfunctional families in the movies is not a new concept, but Acidman shows Lloyd and Maggie trying to interact with each other in the only way they know. Viewer may not know exactly why Lloyd left his family, but from the fragments of information scattered throughout the film, conclusions can be drawn about what the truth could be. There are details from the past that bring a little movement to the emotionally saturated scenes of the father and daughter, giving an idea of their common past, but these two character could be the ones who will finally overcome the generational trauma and start something new.
